There’s nothing quite like lounging in the sun. But without the proper SPF protection, relaxing sunbath can lead to the sun’s UV rays damaging your skin. And if a few bad sunburns don’t bother you, consider this: according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, having five or more sunburns can double your risk of developing melanoma. It’s one of the reasons why more people are diagnosed with skin cancer in the U.S.A. than all other cancers combined.
But what if you like the look of getting a tan? Do it using a proper SPF. Those UV rays can age your skin prematurely. It’s called photoaging and it happens when sun exposure dries the skin, thickening the epidermis and slowing down cell renewal. This means skin can be dehydrated and look older, more wrinkled, withdark spots and leather-like texture.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and the number beside it indicates how well the sunscreen protects the skin against sunburn. It is not an indicator of how long you can stay out in the sun, rather, it indicates how much longer it takes untanned skin to start to redden with sunscreen applied compared to how long it takes to start reddening without it.
To get the SPF number, a simple formula is used. The number of seconds it takes a patch of skin to slightly redden when covered in sunscreen is divided by the number of seconds it takes to slightly redden when there is no sunscreen applied. Say it took 300 seconds for skin to burn with sunscreen, and 10 seconds to burn without it. 300 is divided by 10, which is 30. The SPF is 30.

Have you heard the phrase “double Cleanse” lately?

WHEN TO DOUBLE CLEANSE
Generally, you’ll want to double cleanse at night to remove the sunscreen and makeup from the day.
In the morning, one cleanse usually does the trick, however, if you have very oily skin, you may want to double cleanse. Double cleansing can also be helpful if your regular cleanser isn’t removing enough excess oil, but using a stronger cleanser leaves your skin feeling dry and tight.
WHO SHOULD DOUBLE CLEANSE?
If you have normal-to-oily skin, are prone to breakouts, or wear heavy makeup, double cleansing is perfect for you.
If none of the above applies to you, think of double cleansing like a face mask or a targeted treatment and add to your routine as needed—like a day that you wear caked-on makeup or experience especially oily skin.
If you have sensitive skin, you can still double cleanse, but we recommend you use gentle products. Try an oil-based cleanser or balm paired with a cleanser formulated for sensitive skin, like Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser. This gentle cleanser features a whipped cream-like texture that softly glides onto the skin to effectively remove makeup residue while moisturizing.
Cleansing with oil is beneficial as it helps dissolve all types of makeup and helps remove sunscreen. Every oil works differently and some might argue they work more efficiently than ingredients found in cleansers.
Cleansing oils designed for your face have an edge over pure oils because they contain an ingredient known as an emulsifier. This allows oil to mix with water and form a milky emulsion, making it easy to rinse off instead of leaving a greasy residue like pure oils can.
DOUBLE-CLEANSING GUIDE
– Add cleansing oil to palm of hand or balm to your fingertips. – Use fingers from opposite hand to apply to dry skin. – Gently massage in circular motions, including your eyes for about 30 seconds or until you feel the makeup melting. – Rinse with lukewarm water or gently remove the cleanser with a soft, warm washcloth. – Follow with your regular cleanser and apply to damp skin. – Gently massage in circular motions, avoiding the eye area if not intended for the eyes. – Rinse. – Pat your skin dry. – Finish your skin care routine!

Previously I posted, defining what a skincare regimen is & the steps to take to personalize your regimen. Then I went with the steps to help you choose the right products for you. We’ve discussed cleansers, treatments and now we’re moving on to moisturizers.
First, we want to go back to the earliest of questions previously discussed, “What’s your skin type”? Do you have dry,oily, combination, or even sensitive skin?
BEAUTY TIP- Keep your day moisturizer away from your eyes. Day moisturizers may contain sunscreen which may cause your eyes to burn. Use a separate eye cream.
In the evening you will want to remove all the impurities your skin attracted during the day. Things like sweat, air pollution & your makeup need to be removed. During your rest, your skin, with applied moisturizer, works harder to repair the damage you put it through. Night creams tend to be heavier than day creams to replenish moisture & help reduce signs of aging.

Now, remember the 3rd STEP- “Give it Time” You’ll need to give your new regimen time to work with your skin. Depending on the anti-aging products you choose it may take 6-8 weeks to see results with consistent use. As you age your concerns may change & it’ll be time to revisit your anti-aging regimen to update it.

So far I’ve talked about what is a skincare regime & how to choose a cleanser. Our next step is choosing treatments. Yes, I said treatments as a plural because you may want to target more than 1 concern. Some treatments are suggested for night use, while some are only used a couple of times a week & some treatments are for every day.
First, we cleanse our face then we add the treatments. Treatments may come in the form of a serum, a cream, an oil, or even a scrub. You may use more than 1 treatment at a time. Eye treatments are included in these choices. Your eyes are surrounded by more delicate skin than the rest of your face therefore the treatments are different.
Have you ever said, “Oh it’s ok for my face so I’m going to use this on my face & my eyes?” Then your skincare burns your eyes. That’s because some skin care products, usually day creams, contain SPF. If you’ve ever gotten sunscreen in your eyes, you know it burns.
TIP- Apply your treatments from thinnist to thickest.

As we grow & age not only do our bodies change but our skin does too. Your daily habits have a big effect on your overall appearance and skin. There is so much noise out there it gets difficult to know if you’re doing the right thing for your skin. Let’s simplify all this.
1st- What is a skincare regimen?
Askincare regimen is your daily routine of skincare. Now we hear time & time again to drink plenty of water & this is good for your skin too. Just think of the grape & the raisin. The raisin is just a grape without the water. We don’t want our faces to look like raisins. Well, I’ve had a few people tell me they earned every wrinkle they have & that’s all great & wonderful for them, but not for me.
Cleanse– Washing your face to remove oils, environmental residues, & any makeup
Treatments– Used to target areas of concern to you. (Examples are large pores,uneven skintone, or maybebrown spots.) Don’t forget your eyes. They usually show the first signs of aging & with such delicate skin around your eyes they need their own care.
Moisturizers– Used to Hydrate your skin & other concerns.
3rd- Give it Time
You’ll need to give your new regimen time to work with your skin. Depending on theanti-aging products you choose it may take 6-8 weeks to see results with consistent use. As you age your concerns may change & it’ll be time to revisit your anti-aging regimen to update it.

Many of us have been using our time at home to do some deep cleaning—chances are, your living space and closets are very clean. But have you cleaned out your makeup collection yet? If not, it’s time for a little beauty detox.
Below, we’ve provided some useful tips on how long makeup lasts once opened, which you can use to determine which products to keep or toss. Getting rid of makeup can be a bittersweet task, but you’ll enjoy the results: a streamlined beauty collection and more room in your makeup drawer. Once your beauty detox is complete, you’ll feel organized and refreshed. Not to mention, you’ll be perfectly prepped to update your makeup collection.
FOUNDATION & CONCEALER Period after opening: 1 year. Can’t remember when you opened that foundation that’s been sitting in your makeup drawer for ages? Chances are, it’s time to throw it out. Foundation and concealer—typically in liquid form—last about a year once opened before they can start to grow bacteria. You also might see the formula begin to crack and separate, which means it’s time to let it go. Powder foundation and solid concealer can take a bit longer to accumulate bacteria than their liquid counterparts, so they’ll last a bit longer. Did you toss that old foundation? MASCARA Period after opening: 3-6 months. A few months after it’s opened, mascara will start to dry out. Like other liquid makeup, it can accumulate bacteria, which can lead to potential irritation and infection. If you have sensitive eyes, we recommend switching out your mascara every three months. However, if your mascara still glides on smoothly and doesn’t irritate your eyes, it can last you up to six months. EYE LINER & EYESHADOW Period after opening: 1 year. Opened eye liner pencils and eyeshadow can last much longer than their liquid counterparts. Since solid and powder makeup take longer to build up bacteria, you don’t have to worry about it drying out. However, if you’re a big fan of colored eye makeup, you might want to toss it a bit sooner than your neutrals. Brightly-hued cosmetics change in color over time, and will likely last less than a year once opened. When you notice your purple eyeshadow or green eye liner fading, it’s time to replace it. LIPSTICK Period after opening: 1 year. Many lipsticks not only stay on all day, but they also have a long period after opening.
